Championship Round #3 Worcester, Pitchcroft. 08/04/2023.

A glimpse of what’s to come? Absolutely!

Round 3 saw some incredible performances all round, plenty of PB’s and another fantastic turn out of CMRC members. Photographs and support crew for this round; big thanks to David Alliston, Kate Broome and Andy Weston.

With the first taste of Spring, clear skies and a warm still morning at Worcester saw what appeared to be a record 376 runners at Pitchcroft, little over 28 of those being CMRC members.

Pitchcroft, being a nice flat course was a luxury for the Cleobury runners who no doubt were glad to see some flat terrain for this round! The course is two laps clockwise around the racecourse, firstly heading south, passing the Grandstand and River Severn to the west affording incredible scenery among the trees and views out across the water before coming back round on itself. The finish spurs off to the east a short way once coming round after that second lap.

The Marshalls were lapping up the good weather and providing cheers of enthusiasm and support, getting very much into the competitive spirit as they noticed the flashes of red of the CMRC members whizzing round.

11 PB’s were set here today, those of which include:

  • Paul Skellern. 21:15.

  • Andrew Bowles. 21:54.

  • Viv Dempsey. 22:31.

  • Louise Wall. 24:28.

  • Jackie Nixon. 25:24.

  • Jeremy Ferguson. 25:29.

  • Nicole Zorn. 26:57.

  • Wayne Thomas. 29:10.

  • Clare Griffiths. 29:14.

  • Ian Dennis. 31:12.

  • Pamela Edwards. 36:48.

‘First timers’ shoutouts at Pitchcroft:

  • Charles Bradley.

  • Tom Harris.

  • Emily Holland.

A bit of healthy competition in the Championships is between two runners Ade Ford and Ian Steele seeing them neck and neck throughout this round, taking advantage of the ‘pancake flat’ terrain, with Ian hot on Ade’s heels all the way. Many of us who spotted Ade and Ian blast off at the start, wondered what those stats would say once they crossed the line!

Ade clocked in at 22:22, with Ian very closely behind clocking in at 23:23 !! Safe to say the remainder of the Championships is going to be very exciting for this pair!

Next round of the Club Championships will be 13/05/2023 at Mortimer Forest. Lets hope there’s no rain in the few days prior……..
