PB's on a Windy Wet Wednesday in Worcestershire....

The final of the trio of Fast and Furious rounds at Stourport circuit. Cue that chorus of sighs of relief…..

Firstly a huge well done to everyone who took part in these intense rounds at the circuit. Whether you did one, two or all of them don’t forget they are miles in the bank and a great experience!

A big THANK YOU to Kidderminster & Stourport Athletics Club who host these events, set up and manage timing, numbers and entries. Its really appreciated!

Race reports for this part of the championships come from runners Tom, Vicki and Naomi. Tom raced his first 5K on this round, whilst just coming out the other side of an injury. Superb effort and dedication Tom. Vicki, Tom and Naomi ALL celebrated Pb’s so lets get that PB bell ringing guys!!!

“Fast and Furious 5km, three and a Half laps of the cycle track. It was unusual for it to be raining so hard and a little windy. every time I have previously ran this its been hot!!! Over 40 brave souls attended and around half of them representing CMRC.

I wasn’t expecting ‘fast’ today, I hadn’t eaten much and later it transpired I just wasn't feeling great. I just thought it was the usual pre-race nausea from race nerves I get at this particular event. The last time I had ran this a month ago I had achieved a course personal best, I intended to give it my best shot and knock off a few more seconds. I decided to start off a little more conservatively this time, knowing my first mile last month was too quick for me to sustain. I still kept up with Andie Ford for a while so I knew I was still a little too fast. I was fairly consistent this time and much more so than I thought but as my first mile last time was quicker I did not think I would achieve another course PB. Thank you Emily Holland who kept me going during the last half a lap, if it wasn't for you I do not think I would yet again and I even surprised myself f or achieving another PB. 6 seconds quicker than 4 weeks ago. 24:46 and my second fastest 5K!

We all has some really fantastic achievements today. Well done to all our club members who supported with the much loved ‘trackside abuse’!!”

Vicki Hulme.

“Wednesday I went along to the 5K Fast and Furious race and I can confirm, it was very fast, and very furious…… Being relatively new to running and this being my first proper race the nerves were definitely kicking in on my way to the track.

When arriving my nerves did settle slightly as an army of the red t-shirts and jumpers from CMRC greeted me, and started encouraging me to do well! The buzz and excitement of warming up was fantastic and I was interested in seeing what the race held for me. It was time to head to the start line and the nerves slowly made a return. After a decent warm up I was ready to have a go. I managed to run my fastest 5K to date, knocking 2 minutes off my time!!!

When completing Fast and Furious I felt absolutely amazing and completely overwhelmed by the support and encouragement from everyone. I even managed a sprint to the finish.

would I do it again? absolutely, i’m excited for next time!”

Tom Harris.

“It was a great club turn out again at the 3rd Fast and Furious and last one of the year. Also a pleasure to chase down and be taken over by another red shirt. Another fabulous turn out despite the weather. Well done everyone!”

Naomi Price.

Naomi’s first time at track was 27:13, the second round was 26:36. And in her final round she clocked in at 26:14. Incredible consistency Naomi and a huge congratulations on your PB!.

Vicki’s time in the second round was 24:52, and at the final round she grabbed a superb 24:46. Excellent work!!

Tom in his first 5K race came in incredibly strong with 30:16. All those long slow runs and focused efforts are paying off Tom, keep it up! We’re excited to see more PB’s coming your way this year!

Other shout outs go to:

Ewan Shaw. Ewan said in his last race report he wanted to shave some more seconds off his time for the final round, and he did just that. Clocking in at 17:21 he was absolutely flying round the track and came in as 1st club man. Knocking off 30 or so seconds off his second time. Proof is in the pudding guys - you tell yourself you’re going to go out and get it - then boom! Positive attitude is part of the game!

Adam Sadler. Adam shaved off 30 or so seconds too coming in at 18:25. His second round was 18:52. Maybe running in the rain is the secret, what do you reckon?

Shavaun Jordan. Shavaun is getting strong and stronger each event, and no bit of bad weather will distract her. Coming in as first club lady clocking in an excellent 20:13. That’s also 30 or so seconds off the second time!

Andy Weston. Andy has been nursing a small injury for a while and has recently started exploring the world of Ultras! A 5K is no mean feat for this seasoned athlete, Andy got a fabulous 20:59. Glad to see you back on the mend!

Emily Holland. Emily’s training has been a bit of a rollercoaster the past few months, (and not a fun one like Nemesis!) but we think she is nearing the light at the end of the tunnel!! At the first round, Emily grabbed a respectable 24:35, the second round took a dip with loosing a minute or so, and then with the final round gaining back again with 24:40. Damn those pesky seconds!

Chris Taylor. Chris, infamously sometimes avoids events and parkrun. So we all love it when he suddenly turns up! Chris’s time at the final round was 20:31 and he always tears up the tarmac! Quite the pocket rocket!!

Mark Garner. ‘Happy Mark’ is a much loved face at Cleobury, though as he runs with Amazing Feet too - we see him as and when! Mark always has positive energy and a huge smile. It was great to see you and well done! Your running is super strong!

Paul Scott. Scotty decided to give it a whirl this time after coming to support at the other rounds, clocking in a time of 20:20. Brilliant consistent laps and concentration. Magic!!

Evidently, running in the rain isn’t that bad after all?

A wise man once said, if its raining - we’re training….

Next up in the Championships is Tenbury 10K on 6th August. A fantastic local event with some beautiful scenery. See you there!
