Beginners Group at CMRC aka Couch to 5K (C25K)

By Run Leader Pauline

The beginners’ group is a ten-week course which includes: run coaching, warmup and cool down time, strength and conditioning, and drills.

Well, ten weeks seems a long time when you have taken on a new challenge.  It is nerve wracking; you don't know what to expect who to expect. You feel like turning around and running away and hiding, and that was just me - Pauline, one of the leaders!

I'm sure that Cheryl, Jenny, Laura, Sam, and Sue all felt the same too. Unfortunately, Amy, was unable to complete the course this time, but she can join the next one.

Everyone was a little apprehensive at the start.  At the first meeting we introduced ourselves and talked about why we were here. Some of the reasons included: getting fitter, helping with weight loss, and getting back into running. We soon got to know each other and understood that everyone was on their own journey.

The most amazing thing about the C25K course is watching everyone develop at their own pace.  Also, the sense of achievement when the 5k is finally completed at the end of the course.  Everyone said, "I could never imagine running that distance before completing this course."

Walking plays a huge part of the beginners’ course, with run intervals being slowly increased each week. We also spend time focusing on strength work and good technique.

So why not come along and try it for yourself.  You certainly have nothing to lose and so much to gain. We are a friendly, all-inclusive running club with qualified run leaders and run coaches.

We look forward to welcoming you into the CMRC family.
